Ladies Who Hoop (“LWH”) is a nonprofit organization that empowers women of all ages through the game of basketball. The LWH network is an expansive group of women spanning five generations, with connections to women’s basketball groups across the country and around the world, including Tokyo, Paris, Italy and Senegal.
To further our mission, LWH provides free, year-round programming, services and special events created to encourage fitness, social interaction, leadership development and community engagement. Programming ranges from instructional basketball designed to reintroduce women to the game after spending years off the court (LWH Back2Basics), to offering the first competitive leagues founded and facilitated exclusively by and for women with no male component (LWH Classic). LWH is also creating future leaders by providing valuable hands-on experience in the fields of sports business management, marketing, entrepreneurship and youth development through LWH internships, as well as strengthening confidence and character through Future LWH youth programming and enrichment opportunities, STEM programming, prevention and early intervention, and basketball instruction from an all–female coaching and mentoring team.
In addition to providing women and girls with progressive opportunities and access to a valuable network of athletes, professionals and organizations, LWH is committed to promoting equality and transforming adverse perspectives on women’s sports. By creating platforms for women to showcase athletic, entrepreneurial, coaching, officiating and scholastic skills, while also introducing young girls to leadership experiences both on and off the court, LWH programs are impacting communities in ways that reach far beyond basketball.
