LWH CLASSIC

FAQs

Can I register as a free agent?

Absolutely! All participants register individually. Furthermore, if you’re a natural team leader, we encourage you to indicate interest in being a team co-captain.

Do you accept team registrations?

Ladies Who Hoop began on the playgrounds of New York City. In the spirit of pickup basketball, LWH tournaments and leagues typically do not accept team registrations. Who’s got next?

How are teams determined?

LWH teams are selected by draft based on skill level and position played to ensure even matchups. Team rosters are revealed at special draft events prior to opening day, where players receive team uniforms, meet teammates and begin friendly rivalries against competing teams.

Do teams have coaches?

Because LWH tournaments and leagues are created in the spirit of pickup basketball, teams are not typically coached. "Special guest" coaches have been included for some of the league's special events. Past guest coaches include New York Liberty legends Kym Hampton and Sue Wicks.

Is there a fee to participate?

Yes – though LWH does not profit from the league. Registration fees are required to offset charges incurred for the cost of uniforms, obtaining use of the court, insurance, referee payments and other administrative fees associated with hosting a tournament without sponsorship. Click REGISTRATION for league specific fees.

How does the draft work?

All registered players are organized by skill level and position of play. Players are randomly selected for each team by position from each skill category.

What is the upcoming tournament schedule?

LWH Classic Summer Tournament games take place on Saturdays from late June to mid-August between 12PM-2PM. There are no games July 4th weekend.

I may need to miss a game – will there be subs available?

If you know of schedule conflicts before the tournament, please let us know and we'll work around them. We want you to get the most out of the experience. Team rosters include ample amounts of players in the event some team members can’t attend games. Team captains will coordinate with tournament directors to keep schedules running smoothly. To date, no teams have forfeit in any LWH league.

How does the uniform sizing run?

Uniforms are womens/unisex sizing and typically run true to size. We suggest you select one size up if you prefer a looser fit. POINT 3 is the official outfitter of the LWH Classic Summer Tournament and LWH Full Court 3v3.

Are there prizes for winners?

We believe in celebrating achievements and having fun. Tournament champions and MVPs receive LWH swag and special awards. In addition, participants are often granted exclusive access to special LWH events and promotions. Social events like tournament draft parties, summer barbeques and the annual LWH Classic Karaoke battle are some of the ways we encourage play both on and off the court.
